Kumasi High Court dismisses NDC petition against 3 parliamentary seats in Ashanti region

A Kumasi High Court has dismissed a petition filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) challenging the 2024 parliamentary election results in three constituencies in the Ashanti Region, ruling in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The NDC had filed petitions contesting the declared outcomes in Ahafo Ano South-West, Obuasi East, and Ahafo Ano North, arguing that its candidates had rightfully won the seats despite official re-counts and the subsequent swearing-in of the NPP Members of Parliament.

Counsel for the NPP MPs, Clement Opoku Gyamfi, argued that the NDC failed to comply with procedural requirements, notably the failure to apply for the determination of security for costs within 21 days after the election results were gazetted, as stipulated by law.

“Two High Court judges, one from High Court 2 and another from High Court 6, have unanimously ruled that the NDC petition is invalid and dismissed it,” he said.

The court has affirmed the election of the three NPP MPs, who will continue to represent their constituencies in Parliament.
