Ghanaians No Longer Need Traditional Visas to Travel to Morocco – Okudzeto Ablakwa

New digital travel authorization to boost tourism, trade, and cultural exchange between Ghana and Morocco

Ghana and Morocco Scrap Traditional Visa Requirements

Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has officially confirmed that Ghanaians no longer require traditional visas to travel to Morocco. In a groundbreaking move aimed at deepening bilateral relations, the two countries have agreed on a digital travel authorization system that replaces the conventional visa process.

“This is a landmark agreement that strengthens diplomatic ties and opens new doors for Ghanaians,” said Ablakwa, who made the announcement following his official visit to Morocco.

Travel Made Easier with 24-Hour Online Approval

Under the new system, Ghanaians seeking to travel to Morocco can apply for online travel authorization, which will be processed and issued within 24 hours. This eliminates the need to visit embassies or go through the lengthy visa application procedures.

“This simplified process removes a major barrier to travel and paves the way for increased collaboration between our peoples,” Ablakwa stated.

Strengthening Continental Unity Through Connectivity

The Foreign Affairs Minister emphasized that the move aligns with the broader goal of African integration. “We must begin to see our borders not as walls, but as bridges of connectivity, enabling cooperation, trade, and shared prosperity across the continent,” he said.

The agreement also reflects Ghana’s commitment to advancing the African Union’s vision of borderless travel within the continent.

Boost for Trade, Tourism, and Investment

With direct flights between Ghana and Morocco already in place, the visa-free arrangement is expected to significantly boost tourism, business travel, and cultural exchange. The tourism and hospitality sectors in both countries are poised to benefit, with stakeholders projecting increased movement of people, goods, and services.

“This initiative will benefit young entrepreneurs, students, and tourists seeking to explore opportunities in Morocco and beyond,” Ablakwa noted.

Diplomacy That Delivers for Citizens

The visa waiver deal comes on the back of a successful two-day diplomatic visit by Minister Ablakwa, underscoring his focus on people-centered diplomacy. He described the move as a practical step toward reshaping foreign policy to reflect the real needs and aspirations of everyday Ghanaians.

“As we open doors for easier travel, we also open doors for growth, unity, and opportunity across Africa,” he said.

A Model for Future Agreements

With this development, Morocco joins a growing list of African countries embracing digital, frictionless travel arrangements. Experts believe the success of this initiative could inspire similar agreements with other African states, bringing the continent closer to achieving seamless mobility.
