The success of historic visit of Czech President will be measured by new military investments, others – Ablakwa

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has described the recent visit of Czech President His Excellency Petr Pavel as a “truly memorable historic 3-day” event that marks a significant milestone in Ghana-Czech relations.
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Mr. Ablakwa emphasized that the true success of this diplomatic mission will be reflected in the creation of new industries, advanced technologies, stronger business ties, military support, healthcare infrastructure, and job creation.
“Now the hard work begins, we shall ensure that all the agreements signed materialize, and that the people of both countries benefit from this high-level visit,” Ablakwa noted.

President Mahama’s First State Visit Since Returning to Power
This visit also marks President John Mahama’s first state visit engagement since returning to office, and only the second time a Czech President has visited Ghana in 60 years, underlining its historical significance.
Ghana and Czech Republic Sign Key Bilateral Agreements
During the visit, the two nations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Political Consultation and a Bilateral Air Transport Agreement, which were formalised at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, April 9th, following closed-door discussions between President Mahama and President Petr Pavel.
President Mahama, speaking to the media after the bilateral talks, acknowledged the long-standing friendship between Ghana and the Czech Republic, which dates back to 1961.
“We also signed a MoU on political consultation and a bilateral Air Services Agreement. In our discussions, we acknowledged the cordial and long-standing relations that have existed between our two nations,” President Mahama said.

Focus on Private Sector and Investment Collaboration
The Ghanaian President further called on the private sectors of both countries to take advantage of the renewed relationship and pursue mutually beneficial investment opportunities.
“We urge the Ghanaian and Czech business communities to come together to explore possible avenues for cooperation within the Ghanaian economy,” he stated.
With strong diplomatic ties being renewed and expanded, both nations are expected to collaborate across sectors such as industry, defense, healthcare, aviation, and technology.
