This leadership change follows the remarkable tenure of co-founder David Gowu, who successfully led the institute for eight years. With extensive experience in ICT development, Richard Kafui Amanfu is set to usher IIPGH into a new era of innovation, growth, and impact.
Richard Kafui Amanfu’s Professional Background
With over 16 years of experience in the ICT and telecommunications industry, Richard is a seasoned technology consultant who has held multiple technical and managerial roles across the West African market.
- Education: He holds an MBA in Project Management from GIMPA and a Bachelor of Arts in Information Studies from the University of Ghana, equipping him with the knowledge and skills to lead complex ICT projects and strategies.

Leadership Journey at IIPGH
Since joining IIPGH in 2017 as one of its founding members, Richard has been at the heart of numerous high-impact projects designed to bridge Ghana’s digital skills gap.
Key Achievements:
- Mobilizing Over 2,500 ICT Professionals: Richard played a leading role in creating a nationwide network of experts dedicated to Ghana’s digital economy.
- Capacity Building Programs: He spearheaded initiatives like the Cyber Security Awareness Initiative, the IIPGH Internship Program, and the Persons with Disability Initiative, equipping professionals, students, and businesses with vital digital skills.
- Media Advocacy: Under his leadership, IIPGH has published over 350 technology articles in the Business and Financial Times (B&FT), driving national conversations on ICT development.
- Coding Programs: Richard helped introduce coding lessons to over 10,000 young Ghanaians, ensuring the next generation is ready for future tech opportunities.

- Industry-Academia Tech Dialogue (INDAC-TED): He was instrumental in launching this platform, fostering collaboration between universities and industry leaders to keep ICT curricula relevant.
- Tech Job Fair: Richard led the successful execution of Ghana’s annual Tech Job Fair, connecting job seekers with top employers and driving employment in the tech sector.

Before assuming the role of Executive Director, Richard served as Director of Operations at IIPGH and has worked with notable organizations like Ericsson, Internet Ghana Limited, Gartner Inc, and Edulamp Ghana. His extensive experience has sharpened his strategic and technical expertise in ICT service delivery, operations, and project management.

Richard is a founding member of IIPGH, a Fellow of both the Ghana School on Internet Governance and the West Africa School on Internet Governance, a Senior Professional Member of the Institute of Information Management (IIM) Africa, and an active member of Internet Society (ISOC), Ghana Chapter.
