Afenyo Markin Steps Down, Calls for an End to Retaliatory Political Moves After Chief Justice’s Dismissal

Prominent Ghanaian politician Alexander Afenyo-Markin has made a heartfelt appeal to citizens and political actors to move away from the cycle of retaliatory politics and focus on governance and national unity.

Speaking candidly, Afenyo-Markin shared personal stories of his family’s suffering at the hands of political decisions — including his stepfather’s demotion and his biological father’s dismissal from work. Despite these painful memories, he called on Ghanaians to rise above personal vendettas for the sake of the country’s progress.
“Almost every Ghanaian has a story of political victimization. But we must choose to let go of that pain and focus on building a united, effective nation,” Afenyo-Markin stated.

Petition Against Chief Justice: A Call for Fairness
Touching on the ongoing controversy surrounding the petition to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, Afenyo-Markin pointed out procedural flaws in the process and called for consistency and fairness in how national institutions are handled.
“If we want Ghana to progress, we must abandon politics of revenge and focus on governance that uplifts every citizen,” he emphasized.

A Message That Resonates
Afenyo-Markin’s powerful call to action resonates with many Ghanaians fatigued by the endless cycle of political score-settling. His message highlights a growing public demand for leaders to prioritize national unity, effective governance, and shared progress over partisan interests.
“By putting aside our personal and party battles, we can achieve greater heights as a nation,” he added.
His leadership and vision are being seen by many as a beacon of hope amid Ghana’s increasingly polarized political landscape.
