Mr. Fuseini polled 1,550 votes to emerge ahead of five other contenders in the closely watched contest, which formed part of the NPP’s National Delegates Conference on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

His closest challenger, Clement Opoku Gyamfi, obtained 631 votes, while Michael Osei Boateng secured 78 votes. Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, who served as Deputy National Youth Organiser before the election, received 46 votes, Vera Oye Bram-Larbi polled 44 and Alfred Kumi Ababio obtained 25 votes.

The election was part of a wider exercise to select new national executives to lead the opposition party as it reorganises its structures following its defeat in the 2024 general election and prepares for the 2028 elections.

More than 7,000 delegates from across the country participated in the National Delegates Conference, while the Electoral Commission supervised the voting process.

Voting for the national executive positions was conducted across 31 polling stations established at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Mr. Fuseini’s victory places him at the head of the NPP’s youth structure at a critical period for the party.

As National Youth Organiser, he will be responsible for coordinating the party’s youth activities, strengthening its engagement with young members and helping to mobilise support ahead of the next general election.

During his campaign, Mr. Fuseini placed youth mobilisation at the centre of his agenda. One of his major targets was to mobilise four million youth votes for the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2028 general election.

The ambitious target reflects the importance of Ghana’s young population to the electoral fortunes of political parties.

Young voters form a significant part of the electorate, making their participation and political preferences crucial to any party seeking to build a broad national coalition.

For the NPP, rebuilding its relationship with young people is particularly important as the party seeks to regain political power in 2028.

The new youth leadership will therefore face the task of translating campaign promises into sustained engagement at the grassroots level. Editorial Ethics & Independence

Mr. Fuseini is expected to work closely with the newly elected national executives, regional leaders, constituency executives and other party structures to strengthen coordination within the youth wing.

His election also marks a transition from the leadership of Salam Mustapha, who previously served as the NPP’s National Youth Organiser.

Mr. Fuseini will inherit an established youth structure while being expected to introduce his own priorities and strategies for mobilisation.

The timing of the leadership change means the new National Youth Organiser will have a relatively clear period in which to develop the party’s youth strategy before the 2028 campaign intensifies.

Beyond electoral mobilisation, the youth wing will also have to address broader issues affecting young Ghanaians.

Employment opportunities, entrepreneurship, education, skills development, digital opportunities and participation in national decision-making are among the issues that can shape young people’s relationship with political parties.

A youth organisation that responds effectively to such concerns could help the NPP strengthen its relevance among younger voters.

Conversely, failure to maintain meaningful engagement could make it more difficult for the party to translate organisational structures into electoral support. Corrections Policy

Mr. Fuseini’s victory was one of several significant outcomes from the NPP’s national executive elections.

The results give the NPP a new national leadership team that will be expected to work collectively on rebuilding the party’s structures and strengthening its electoral organisation.

For Mr. Fuseini, the immediate challenge will be to consolidate the support demonstrated by delegates and build a youth wing capable of engaging members beyond election periods.

His overwhelming margin of victory provides a strong mandate, but the effectiveness of his tenure will ultimately depend on how well he works with the wider party structure and responds to the expectations of young members. Newscard

With the 2028 general election already shaping the political agenda, the new National Youth Organiser will have a central role in the NPP’s efforts to expand its youth support base, improve grassroots mobilisation and prepare a new generation of party activists for the next electoral contest.
