The Ghana Police Service is set to fully operationalise its automated traffic enforcement system, “TRAFFITECH-GH”, from October 1, 2026, with motorists who commit traffic offences to be notified of their fines through SMS.
The initiative, being implemented through the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), forms part of efforts by the Police Service to tackle road indiscipline and strengthen compliance with traffic laws and regulations.
In a press release dated September 15, 2026, the Service explained that the system would use cameras and Personal Data Assistant (PDA) devices to identify and record traffic violations.
Following the detection and review of an offence, an “Electronic Notice of Violation (ENV)” will be sent via SMS to the vehicle owner or driver involved. The notification will contain details of the offence as well as the applicable fine.
The Ghana Police Service has therefore urged motorists, drivers and vehicle owners to observe road traffic regulations and cooperate with the implementation of the system.
According to the Service, the automated enforcement programme is aimed at promoting greater discipline among road users, improving road safety and helping to reduce road traffic crashes and related casualties.
The statement was signed on behalf of the Ghana Police Service by Deputy Superintendent of Police Richmond Mensah, Staff Officer at the Public Affairs Directorate.
The Service also directed members of the public to an online platform for additional information about the “TRAFFITECH-GH” programme.
