The Accra Sports Stadium has been approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host home matches for Somalia and Niger during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
National Sports Authority (NSA) Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah disclosed that the Accra-based venue is currently Ghana’s only stadium cleared to stage FIFA Category A international matches.
The approval follows maintenance and rehabilitation works undertaken at the stadium after CAF raised concerns about its condition.
Speaking to 3Sports, Ampofo Ankrah said the facility would host not only matches involving the Black Stars but also serve as the temporary home venue for Niger and Somalia during the upcoming international fixtures.
“Accra Sports Stadium is currently the only approved venue for FIFA Category A matches,” he said.
Niger are scheduled to host Lesotho in Accra on September 24, 2026, while Ghana will travel to Bouaké to face Côte d’Ivoire on the same day in their opening Group C qualifier.
“On the 24th of September, the Black Stars will be in Bouaké. And at the same time, Niger will be here against Lesotho. So we’re preparing for that,” Ampofo Ankrah added.
He further disclosed that the Somalia Football Federation has communicated its decision to play both of its qualifying fixtures against Ghana at the Accra Sports Stadium.
“Both matches Ghana vs Somalia and Somalia vs Ghana will be played in Accra, home and away. So that’s what the FA has communicated. So we need to prepare for those matches.”
The Black Stars are set to begin their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign with an away clash against Côte d’Ivoire before returning home to face Gambia in their second Group C fixture.
