Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru has left RSC Anderlecht after reaching a mutual agreement with the Belgian club to terminate his contract.
The 28-year-old was entering the final year of his deal, which was initially set to run until the summer of 2027. However, Anderlecht confirmed on Wednesday that both parties had agreed to end the contract early.
The club explained that Ashimeru had not been part of its sporting plans for some time and said the decision would give the midfielder the opportunity to pursue the next chapter of his career.
Ashimeru joined Anderlecht on loan from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in January 2021 before making the transfer permanent later that year.
During his five-year spell in Brussels, he made 129 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing six assists.
His time at Anderlecht was disrupted by recurring injuries, while increased competition for places also reduced his playing opportunities in his later years.
In the 2025–26 season, Ashimeru spent time on loan at Belgian club RAAL La Louvière, making nine league appearances. Before that, he had also been moved to Anderlecht’s RSCA Futures setup after the club indicated in 2025 that he was no longer part of its plans.
Ashimeru now leaves Anderlecht as a free agent and will be looking for a new club where he can secure regular playing time and revive his career.
The midfielder began his football development at WAFA in Ghana before moving to Europe. He later represented Ghana at senior level and gained experience with Salzburg and other European clubs during loan spells before establishing himself at Anderlecht.
