Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has dismissed reports alleging that audio or video recordings exist linking him to extortion, describing such claims as unfounded.
He said he has carried out his parliamentary responsibilities with dignity and has avoided conduct that could undermine his reputation or the confidence placed in him by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“I am not a perfect guy, but I won’t be reckless. I know what I have to do,” he stated.
Responding to allegations that individuals possess recordings that could embarrass him, his family or the party, Afenyo-Markin firmly denied the claims.
“Nobody has any video of me doing anything… Nobody has any audio of me doing anything to embarrass myself, my family and the party,” he said.
The Minority Leader said he understands that politicians are often subjected to allegations and speculation, particularly on social media, but maintained that the claims against him were part of political manoeuvring.
He made the comments on Monday, August 31, 2026, when cultural troupes from Winneba paid a courtesy visit to his residence in Accra.
Afenyo-Markin also disclosed that he has taken legal action over the allegations, expressing confidence that the courts would help resolve the matter and clear his name.
He further emphasised his appreciation for the confidence reposed in him by the NPP’s leadership and elders, stressing that he does not take the party’s trust for granted.
