New Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has outlined his ambitions for the 2026/27 season, making it clear that his main goal is to guide the Porcupine Warriors to major honours.

The South African coach joined the Kumasi-based club in July as part of efforts to rebuild the team following a disappointing previous campaign in which Kotoko failed to win a major trophy.

With the new Ghana Premier League season scheduled to begin in September, Tinkler is focused on putting together a strong and competitive squad. He has set a top-two league finish as one of his key targets but insists his ambitions go beyond simply securing a high position on the table.

“The target is to finish in the top two. I didn’t come here to just earn a salary. I came here to win things; that’s the most important thing. I came here to win things and achieve things,” Tinkler told journalists on Tuesday.

The former South African international also stressed that his competitive nature and desire for success would be evident whenever he takes charge from the touchline.

“I’m a very ambitious person, so I will be very animated on the bench. My passion is to win things,” he added.

Tinkler made the remarks after leading Kotoko to a 1-0 win over Heart of Lions in a pre-season friendly. The game allowed him to further evaluate his squad while working on his tactical ideas ahead of the new campaign.

Kotoko are expected to play two more friendly matches before the league begins. The fixtures will provide Tinkler with additional opportunities to assess his players, fine-tune his tactics and address weaknesses within the squad.

The Porcupine Warriors will enter the new season determined to reclaim their place among Ghana’s top clubs, and Tinkler appears prepared to take on the challenge.

His message to the supporters is straightforward: he wants a team with ambition, determination and a strong desire to compete for trophies. The coach will now hope to turn those ambitions into results when the 2026/27 season begins.
