The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will today, Saturday, August 15, elect its regional executives as part of efforts to reorganise the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The elections are expected to produce new regional leadership teams tasked with strengthening the party’s organisational structures, mobilising supporters at the grassroots and rebuilding the party following its defeat in the 2024 general election.
The reorganisation exercise will eventually culminate in the election of national officers on October 3, 2026.
The Regional Delegates Conference comprises members of the Regional Executive Committee, Members of Parliament, constituency executive committees, representatives of the Regional Council of Elders and Council of Patrons, as well as representatives of TESCON and other constitutionally recognised groups.
Delegates will vote for regional chairpersons, first and second vice-chairpersons, secretaries and deputy secretaries, treasurers, organisers, women’s organisers, youth organisers, Nasara organisers, communications officers and Persons with Disability (PWD) coordinators.
Iegin the Ashanti Region, about 1,020 delegates are expected to take part in the election.
A total of 34 aspirants are contesting 11 executive positions, with the outcome expected to shape the party’s regional leadership and grassroots mobilisation efforts.
The NPP regional elections in the Ashanti Region will be held at the Kumasi Jubilee Park, with the contest coming at a crucial time for the party as it works to strengthen its structures, rebuild internal cohesion and revive its support base.
The Ashanti Region remains one of the NPP’s key political strongholds, making the outcome of today’s election particularly significant to the party’s organisational and electoral strategy ahead of 2028.
