The Prampram District Police have arrested a taxi driver after intercepting a vehicle allegedly transporting sacks of substances suspected to be Indian hemp during an intelligence-led operation.
The operation was carried out on the evening of August 5, 2026, after police at Tropoli received information that two vehicles loaded with suspected narcotics were being pursued.
Officers immediately joined the chase alongside another police officer and commercial motor riders from Osuwem, who were already tracking the suspects.
According to the Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Eric Asamoah Asiedu, the suspects were travelling in a Hyundai H100 bus and an Opel taxi with registration number ER 564-X, both believed to be carrying several sacks of suspected Indian hemp.
Speaking at a press conference on August 6, 2026, DCOP Asiedu said the Hyundai H100 bus managed to escape. However, the Opel taxi diverted onto the Akutor Road towards Ogboye, where commercial motor riders from Tropoli joined the pursuit, leading to its interception.
The driver, identified as Eric Tetteh, was arrested at the scene.
A search of the taxi uncovered four sacks containing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The suspected narcotics, together with the vehicle, were seized and transported to the Tropoli Police Station to aid ongoing investigations.
Police said the suspect allegedly admitted during interrogation that he was transporting the substances to a village in Akuse.
Investigators are also working to identify and arrest individuals who reportedly removed a fifth sack during the chase.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to trace the occupants of the escaped Hyundai H100 bus and recover the vehicle as investigations into the Prampram Indian hemp arrest continue.
