The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a robbery syndicate in connection with a violent Wassa Akropong gold robbery that targeted a gold buyer earlier this year.
According to the Police, the robbery occurred on the night of March 11, 2026, when the victim, Mr. Orls Oduro, was returning home after closing his gold-buying business at Tamakloe.
Mr. Oduro had hired an Okada rider to take him home when they were ambushed by armed men, who robbed them at gunpoint.
The robbers reportedly fled with GH¢24,000 in cash, seven pounds and six matches of gold valued at GH¢94,530, an iPhone XR, and a Tecno Spark 12 mobile phone.
Following the attack, the Police launched investigations that led to intelligence-led operations at Duaso and Domeabra on July 21 and 22, 2026.
The operations resulted in the arrest of four suspects identified as Kwabena Amuah, 25, also known as “IK”; Mohammed Nasir, 28, alias “Mallam”; Samuel Agyei, 24, alias “Okese-1”; and Kofi Gyasi, 26, alias “Brefo.”
The suspects were arraigned before the Wassa Akropong District Court on July 23, 2026, where they were remanded into police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest another suspect, identified only as “Agogo,” who is currently on the run.
The Western Central Regional Police Command has appealed to the public to volunteer any credible information that could lead to his arrest by reporting to the nearest police station.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and assured the public that all those involved in the Wassa Akropong gold robbery would be brought to justice.
