The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has dismissed two car park workers for soliciting money from passengers outside the company’s approved payment procedures.

The move follows a series of complaints from travellers who alleged that some airport workers had been asking for or demanding money from passengers without authorization.

Speaking to journalists during a visit by Parliament’s Committee on Roads and Transportation on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, GACL Managing Director Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare said the company has adopted a zero-tolerance approach to such misconduct and remains committed to eliminating the practice.

She disclosed that the two workers were immediately removed after investigations confirmed their involvement.

“Just about two weeks ago, we had about two people expelled from the airport as car park workers who asked passengers for money. Once we were able to identify them, we had them leave the airport immediately. We are asking the general public to help us address these issues,” she said.

The Managing Director urged passengers to support efforts to curb extortion by insisting on official receipts for any payments made at the airport.

According to her, obtaining receipts and reporting incidents will provide management with the evidence needed to identify offenders and take disciplinary action.

“We are also asking that anyone who is asked to pay money should request a receipt. That receipt can be brought to management and used as evidence,” she explained.

Ms. Opare further encouraged travellers to take note of the identities of personnel who demand tips or unauthorized payments.

She advised passengers to record the name, agency, and identification details displayed on staff ID cards before reporting such incidents to the authorities.

“If you are asked for any tip, find out which agency the person belongs to, get the person’s name, and capture the ID card if possible before reporting the incident,” she said.

She also announced that GACL will introduce a dedicated hotline to enable passengers to promptly report cases of extortion and other unethical conduct at the airport.
