The Government of Ghana, in partnership with the Gbeho and related families, has announced a state burial for the late Ambassador James Victor Gbeho in recognition of his distinguished service to Ghana and the international community.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency on Wednesday, July 29, the state funeral will take place at the forecourt of the State House on Friday, July 31, 2026.
The Presidency described Ambassador Gbeho as one of Ghana’s most respected statesmen, highlighting his remarkable diplomatic career and years of service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During his career, he served as Chief Director, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and later Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador Gbeho also made significant contributions on the international stage, serving as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Somalia before becoming President of the ECOWAS Commission.
The government expressed its deepest sympathies to the Gbeho family and all those mourning the loss of the accomplished diplomat.
