Two individuals have been arrested after the Manhyia District Police Command intercepted suspected narcotic substances during an intelligence-led operation at Asawase in Kumasi.
The operation was conducted following information received by the police about the movement of suspected drugs through the area. Officers from the Manhyia Divisional Criminal Investigations Department and the Zongo Police Station were deployed to carry out the exercise.
During the operation, the police arrested Osman Bassein, 37, and Mohammed Abdul-Razak, 38, who were allegedly linked to the suspected narcotic substances.
A search conducted in the presence of independent witnesses led to the discovery of several fertilizer sacks containing second-hand clothing, which had allegedly been used to conceal 100 compressed parcels of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The police have since secured the recovered substances and forwarded them for forensic examination as investigations continue into the matter.
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to go through the necessary legal processes after the completion of investigations.
The Manhyia District Police Command has praised members of the public for providing information that assisted in the operation, describing public cooperation as essential in the fight against drug-related offences.
The Command has also urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities to security agencies as part of efforts to improve safety and prevent criminal activities within communities.
The latest operation forms part of ongoing police efforts to disrupt the distribution and movement of illegal substances in the Ashanti Region.
