FC Barcelona have confirmed that teenage sensation Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the 2025–2026 season after suffering a hamstring injury, dealing a significant blow to the club’s title run while offering cautious optimism for Spain ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The 18 year old forward sustained the injury during Barcelona’s narrow 1–0 victory over Celta Vigo, where he scored the winning penalty before immediately showing signs of discomfort and leaving the pitch. Medical tests later confirmed damage to the biceps femoris muscle in his left leg, forcing the club to rule him out for the rest of the campaign.

Barcelona said the player will undergo a conservative treatment plan, avoiding surgery in order to prioritise recovery ahead of the summer international tournament. The club added that Yamal is “expected to be available for the World Cup,” a statement that has reassured fans and national team officials.

The injury comes at a crucial stage of the season for Barcelona, who remain in a strong position in La Liga but now face the final stretch without one of their most influential attacking players. Yamal has been central to the club’s campaign, contributing goals, assists and consistent attacking threat despite his young age.

Reports indicate that the winger has enjoyed a standout season, with more than 20 goals and a high number of assists across competitions, underlining his rapid rise as one of Europe’s brightest young talents.

The timing of the injury has also raised concerns for Spain national football team, with the World Cup approaching. However, early medical assessments suggest the injury is not severe enough to threaten his participation in the tournament, provided recovery progresses as expected.

Experts estimate that the recovery period could range between five to eight weeks, which would align with the World Cup schedule set to begin in June across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Yamal’s potential availability is seen as critical for Spain, who are widely considered one of the favourites heading into the tournament. His pace, creativity and ability to influence games in tight situations have made him a key figure in the national team setup.

Despite the positive outlook, medical staff are expected to manage his return carefully, given the high risk of re injury associated with hamstring problems. Rushing him back too early could jeopardise both his long term fitness and his impact at the World Cup.

The young star has already reacted publicly to the setback, expressing disappointment at missing the end of the club season but reaffirming his determination to return stronger. His message reflects both maturity and focus, qualities that have defined his rapid development at the top level.

For Barcelona, the absence of Yamal means adjusting their attacking approach during a decisive period that includes crucial league fixtures. The club will need to rely on squad depth and tactical flexibility to maintain momentum without one of their most dynamic players.

At a broader level, the injury highlights the growing physical demands placed on young footballers competing at elite levels across club and international competitions. Yamal has featured heavily throughout the season, and managing his workload will be essential to preserving his long term career.

While Barcelona must now finish the season without him, attention is already shifting toward the global stage. If his recovery stays on track, Yamal could still play a defining role for Spain at the World Cup, turning a difficult moment into a temporary setback rather than a long term concern.
