Ahantaman Rural Bank PLC has once again demonstrated its commitment to community development with the successful refurbishment of the Assembly Hall at Baidoo Bonsoe Senior High Technical School (SHTS) in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region. The project, which forms part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, is aimed at improving educational infrastructure and creating a safer, more conducive environment for teaching, learning, and school activities.
The refurbished assembly hall was officially unveiled at a brief but significant ceremony held in Agona Nkwanta, attended by management of the bank, school authorities, and other stakeholders. Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Ahantaman Rural Bank PLC, Mr. Benjamin Afful-Eshun, explained that the decision to rehabilitate the hall was driven by serious safety and usability concerns that had persisted for several years.
According to Mr. Afful-Eshun, the assembly hall had deteriorated to such an extent that it posed a risk to students, staff, and visitors. The structure suffered from damaged ceilings, leaking roofs, broken windows, and poorly maintained sanitary facilities. These conditions significantly affected the hall’s functionality and eventually forced the bank to stop using the facility for its Annual General Meetings approximately three years ago.
Initial plans by the bank focused on carrying out minor repairs to address the most visible defects. However, further technical assessments revealed that the damage was more extensive than initially anticipated. As a result, management took the decision to expand the scope of the project to ensure a long-term solution rather than a temporary fix.

The refurbishment works involved the demolition and reconstruction of nearly half of the building, including sections of the gallery and terraces. The project covered major structural improvements such as roofing, ceiling replacement, new flooring, installation of windows, upgraded sanitary facilities, and other essential works required to restore the hall to acceptable standards. The total cost of the project is estimated at approximately GH¢500,000, reflecting the scale of the intervention and the bank’s dedication to quality execution.
Mr. Afful-Eshun noted that the project aligns with the bank’s philosophy of giving back to the communities that support its operations. He stressed that educational institutions play a critical role in national development and deserve sustained investment, particularly in infrastructure that directly affects student safety and learning outcomes. He also urged students and school authorities to take responsibility for maintaining the facility to ensure that it serves its purpose for many years to come.
The Board Chairman of Ahantaman Rural Bank PLC, Rt. Rev. De-Graft Brace, also addressed the gathering and described the refurbishment as a key milestone in the bank’s broader community development agenda. He highlighted that the project forms part of activities marking the bank’s 40th anniversary, a period the institution is using to reflect on its impact and renew its commitment to social responsibility.
Rt. Rev. Brace emphasized that investments in education are among the most sustainable forms of community support, as they contribute directly to human capital development. He encouraged the school community to see the renovated hall as a shared asset that must be protected and used responsibly. According to him, the success of such projects depends not only on financial investment but also on the collective effort of beneficiaries to preserve them.
On behalf of Baidoo Bonsoe Senior High Technical School, the Headmaster, Mr. Edward Bordes, expressed profound gratitude to Ahantaman Rural Bank PLC for the intervention. He described the refurbished assembly hall as a major relief to the school, noting that it has restored dignity and functionality to an essential facility that supports academic and extracurricular activities.

Mr. Bordes acknowledged that the hall will now serve as a safe venue for assemblies, examinations, school programmes, and community events. However, he also used the occasion to draw attention to other pressing challenges facing the school. Among these are the absence of a perimeter wall, which exposes the school to theft and vandalism, as well as inadequate security, dining facilities, and sanitation infrastructure.
He appealed to government agencies, corporate institutions, philanthropists, and well-meaning individuals to complement the bank’s efforts by supporting additional development projects at the school. According to him, addressing these needs will significantly improve the overall learning environment and help the school achieve its educational objectives.

The refurbishment of the Baidoo Bonsoe SHTS Assembly Hall stands as a strong example of how corporate institutions can positively influence community development through targeted and impactful interventions. By investing in educational infrastructure, Ahantaman Rural Bank PLC continues to reinforce its role as a development partner, contributing not only to financial inclusion but also to the social progress of the communities it serves.
