Hajia Amina Adam, the wife of the late Ayawaso East Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, has announced her intention to contest the upcoming Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election slated for Tuesday, March 3, 2026. The Electoral Commission scheduled the by-election after the seat became vacant following Toure’s death on January 4, 2026, in accordance with Article 112(5) of the 1992 Constitution.

In a statement issued on January 22, 2026, Hajia Amina Adam said she decided to enter the race after extensive consultations with constituents, community leaders, party members and grassroots supporters who urged her to continue her late husband’s work in the constituency. She described the decision as challenging due to the personal loss but said she was motivated by calls from chiefs, imams, youth groups and elders to serve the people of Ayawaso East.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), the party of the late MP, has released guidelines for its parliamentary primary ahead of the by-election, with nominations, vetting and the selection of the party’s candidate scheduled for February 7, 2026. Several aspirants, including Hajia Amina Adam and former MP and diplomat Baba Jamal, have declared their intention to contest the NDC primary.
