Liverpool manager Arne Slot has strongly condemned the racist abuse directed at Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo during Friday night’s Premier League opener at Anfield.

The Ghanaian international, who scored twice in the match despite the incident, was targeted with racist chants in the opening 30 minutes of Bournemouth’s 4-2 defeat to Liverpool. The game was briefly halted after reports of abuse from the stands.

Club Response and Police Investigation

Liverpool released a statement shortly after the match, confirming their cooperation with Merseyside Police to identify and investigate the perpetrator. According to Slot, progress has already been made in finding the individual responsible.

“It’s under investigation with the police now,” Slot told reporters. “The club statement made very clear how we feel about this. It’s unacceptable in every football stadium, let alone at Anfield.”

Despite the abuse, Semenyo displayed resilience, netting twice for Bournemouth in the second half. Slot praised the 22-year-old striker’s mental toughness:

“Big credit to him when something happens like this and you can perform so well in the second half. He’s not only a great player but very strong mentally. Wherever we can help him, we’ll try to do so.”

Semenyo’s Rising Influence

The Ghanaian forward enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season, scoring 11 goals in the Premier League. Bournemouth are banking on him to lead their attack again this year as they look to secure another strong finish.
