ECOWAS Mourns With Ghana

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has expressed its deepest condolences to the Government of Ghana, the bereaved families, and the people of Ghana following the tragic helicopter crash at Sikaman, in the Adansi Akrofuom area of the Ashanti Region.

The fatal incident, which occurred on Wednesday, August 6, claimed the lives of several senior government officials, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, among others.

In an official statement, ECOWAS described the loss as a “devastating blow to the region”, noting that the fallen leaders were committed to peace, security, and regional cooperation.

The regional bloc emphasized its solidarity with Ghana during this time of national mourning and pledged continued support in honouring the legacies of the deceased officials.

Ghana’s presidency has since ordered that all national flags fly at half-mast as a mark of respect.
