Fifa Ranks Black Queens 67th

Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, have slipped one spot in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, moving from 66th to 67th globally, according to the August 2025 update released by FIFA on Thursday. Despite their spirited performances in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers and preparations, the team’s global standing dipped slightly—raising eyebrows among fans and analysts alike.

Continental Standing Unchanged
On the African continent, however, the Black Queens have maintained their 6th position, trailing behind Nigeria, South Africa, Morocco, Cameroon, and Zambia. This consistency in continental ranking suggests that the team still holds significant sway in African women’s football despite global fluctuations.

Behind the Drop
FIFA’s rankings are determined based on match results, with points gained or lost depending on the strength of the opponent and the importance of the match. While the Black Queens have shown promise under head coach Nora Häuptle, their lack of competitive matches against higher-ranked international opponents may have contributed to the drop.

What’s Next for the Black Queens?
With the 2026 WAFCON drawing nearer and qualifiers intensifying, the Queens have an opportunity to climb the rankings if they sustain their current momentum and schedule high-stakes friendlies. Fans remain hopeful that the team’s blend of youth and experience will soon translate into international success and improved rankings.
