Ghana Police Deny Raid on Bono East NPP Chairman’s Residence

The Ghana Police Service has officially refuted reports alleging that officers raided the residence of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono East Regional Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, in Techiman — an operation allegedly resulting in the death of one individual.

In a statement released on Saturday, August 2, the police called the claims “false and misleading,” insisting that no raid was carried out on Mr. Bukari’s residence. Instead, they clarified that officers from the Bono East Regional Command were acting on intelligence about a robbery in progress during the early hours of Friday, August 1.

According to preliminary findings, the incident took place around 1:20 a.m., when police responded to a tip-off regarding criminal activity in Techiman. Upon reaching the scene, officers encountered a group of suspects attempting to scale a wall to escape.

Seidu Bukari, one of the suspects, was shot during the encounter. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Investigations later revealed that Bukari was a known member of a robbery syndicate that had been involved in motorbike theft and smuggling operations between Techiman and Kumasi. He was also wanted in connection with another robbery case under active investigation.

A motorbike and tools suspected to have been used by the gang were recovered from the scene. The police emphasized that the criminal group had returned to Techiman that night for yet another planned robbery when officers intercepted them.

Although it was later confirmed that the house involved in the incident belonged to Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, the Police Service maintained that the operation was not aimed at him or his residence.

To ensure transparency and uphold professional standards, the Inspector-General of Police has deployed a team from the CID Headquarters, Police Professional Standards Bureau, and Police Intelligence Directorate to conduct a full-scale investigation.
