The University of Ghana, Legon, has officially lifted its ban on social gatherings, signaling a major step toward the full restoration of campus activities following a recent spike in COVID-19 cases. The announcement was made on Monday, July 14, through a notice issued by the Office of Student Affairs.

This decision reflects a broader easing of pandemic-related restrictions and comes after a careful review of the public health situation on campus. The University had earlier imposed the ban in response to a minor resurgence of COVID-19 infections among students and staff. With active cases now significantly reduced and safety protocols reinforced, the institution has deemed it safe to resume in-person events and student engagements.

With the lifting of the ban, student groups, religious bodies, and campus associations can now resume holding events, meetings, and recreational activities under existing health and safety guidelines. University authorities have, however, urged all organisers to remain vigilant and adhere to basic preventive protocols such as hand hygiene and adequate ventilation during gatherings.
