Eswatini monarch seeks deeper Ghana-Eswatini ties
King Mswati III of Eswatini has arrived in Ghana for a four-day state visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations. The visit marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s engagement with the southern African kingdom.
The monarch was welcomed in Accra on Wednesday, where he will be officially hosted by President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House. Discussions between the two heads of state are expected to cover areas of mutual interest, including economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and continental trade collaboration.
Bilateral talks and cultural engagements
The visit will culminate in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen cooperation between Ghana and Eswatini. King Mswati III will also pay a visit to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, reinforcing Eswatini’s commitment to the continental trade initiative.

Following engagements in Accra, King Mswati III will travel to Kumasi, where he will be hosted by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in a ceremony that underscores the cultural and traditional bonds between the two nations.
Background of the monarch
King Mswati III, known as Ingwenyama, has ruled Eswatini since 1986. As one of the last remaining absolute monarchs in the world, he continues to blend the preservation of Swazi tradition with efforts to attract international partnerships for national development.
His visit to Ghana is seen as a strategic move to foster South-South cooperation and strengthen pan-African unity through bilateral diplomacy and shared economic goals.
