In a shocking turn of events, a 30-year-old man identified as Nana Kofi Amofa, also known as Kofi Yesu, has been apprehended by the Central East Regional Police Intelligence Unit (PID) for attempting to sell his 6-year-old niece for a staggering GHC150,000 in exchange for a Canadian visa.
The audacious crime was thwarted on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, around 10:00 PM, when police officers from the PID successfully apprehended Amofa at Gomoa Buduburam, near Obolo Estate in the Central Region. Acting on credible intelligence suggesting the suspect’s nefarious intentions, the officers posed as potential buyers, leading to Amofa’s downfall during the attempted transaction.
Confronted with the evidence, Amofa confessed to his heinous crime, revealing that the intended victim was the daughter of his elder brother, Kwadwo Brako, residing in Nyamebekyere, a village near Akyem Ayirebi in the Eastern Region. The unsuspecting child had been lured to her uncle’s residence under the guise of better educational prospects, only to be subjected to this horrifying ordeal.
Both the young girl and her unscrupulous uncle have been handed over to the Kasoa Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) for further investigation.
