Deputy Transport Minister Dorcas Affo-Toffey has held discussions with Ceris Technologies Commercial Director at Tanger Med, Houmad Elouazzani, on opportunities to advance port digitalisation, strengthen cybersecurity and improve the efficiency of Ghana’s maritime infrastructure.
The engagement focused on leveraging technology and strategic partnerships to modernise port operations, improve digital security and build resilient maritime infrastructure to support Ghana’s growing trade and transport needs.

Affo-Toffey, who is also the Member of Parliament for Jomoro in the Western Region, described the discussions as productive, highlighting the importance of exploring innovative solutions to improve port efficiency and safeguard digital systems within the maritime sector.
Port digitalisation has become increasingly important in modern maritime operations, helping to streamline processes, improve information sharing and facilitate the movement of goods. As ports rely more heavily on digital platforms, cybersecurity has also become critical to protecting sensitive information and ensuring operational continuity.
The meeting provided an opportunity to explore potential areas of collaboration with Ceris Technologies, particularly in applying technology to improve port management, protect digital infrastructure and strengthen the resilience of Ghana’s maritime sector.
Affo-Toffey emphasised the importance of strategic partnerships and technology-driven innovation in advancing the government’s transport and maritime modernisation agenda.
She noted that adopting modern technologies and strengthening digital security would be important to positioning Ghana as a competitive maritime hub in West Africa.
Ghana’s ports serve as major gateways for international trade, supporting economic activity and connecting local businesses to regional and global markets. Improving operational efficiency and protecting port systems are therefore essential to strengthening the country’s maritime competitiveness.
The engagement forms part of broader efforts to explore innovative approaches to transport and maritime development. However, further steps would be needed to translate the discussions into concrete projects or formal partnerships.
Affo-Toffey reiterated the importance of embracing innovation and building international relationships to support a more efficient, secure and resilient maritime sector.
