The government will not accept fresh recruitment applications into Ghana’s security services in 2027 as it prioritises qualified applicants who are yet to be enlisted for training.
Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak announced the decision on Tuesday, October 20, during an appearance before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee.

He said the move followed instructions from President John Dramani Mahama and was aimed at ensuring that applicants who had successfully completed the recruitment process but could not secure training slots were given priority.
According to the Minister, the recruitment portal will remain closed to new applicants next year while the government works through the existing pool of qualified candidates.
“Next year, there will be no new applicants. We are not going to open the portal based on the President’s instructions. We are not going to open the portal for fresh applications,” he said.
Muntaka explained that recruitment would continue from the existing list until all eligible candidates who had passed the selection process but missed out on training places had been accommodated.
“Those who have already applied, gone through and passed the process and qualified to have gone for training but space didn’t allow are the ones we will pick,” he added.
He stressed that fresh applications would only be accepted after the current backlog had been cleared.
“We will keep picking from the list until we exhaust it before another application will be allowed,” the Minister stated.
The decision means prospective applicants hoping to join Ghana’s security services will have to wait until the government accommodates the existing pool of qualified candidates before a new recruitment exercise is opened.
