Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, has urged banks to strengthen their risk management frameworks, adopt sustainable business models and improve institutional resilience to protect gains made in the banking sector.

Speaking at the 43rd Annual General Meeting of the Ghana Association of Banks (GAB) and the launch of the sixth edition of the Ghana Bankers’ Voice Magazine in Accra on October 8, 2026, Dr Asiama said the sector had made significant progress in recent years.

He cited stronger capital positions, improved financial stability and a decline in non-performing loans as key achievements.

The Governor urged banks to build on these gains by prioritising sound corporate governance, prudent risk management and innovation.

“Our ambition should be to build a banking sector that is strong enough to absorb shocks, innovative enough to adapt to change, and capable of financing Ghana’s long-term economic transformation,” he said.

Dr Asiama reaffirmed the Bank of Ghana’s commitment to working closely with banks and other stakeholders to build a sound, resilient, innovative and sustainable financial sector capable of supporting Ghana’s economic growth and development.
