Teacher unions have suspended their strike after reaching an agreement with the government on new modalities to address outstanding concerns over promotions, salary adjustments and allowances.

Chief Executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Dr George Smith-Graham, said both parties had reached a consensus and signed the agreed modalities for resolving the outstanding issues.

Under the agreement, 52,000 promoted teachers are expected to receive their adjusted salaries on October 16, 2026.

The remaining promoted teachers are expected to receive their salary adjustments by the end of October, Dr Smith-Graham said.

The agreed modalities are expected to guide the implementation of outstanding payments and the fulfilment of other commitments made by both parties.
