Two people were killed after reportedly becoming trapped in a mining pit at Juaboso in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region.
The two reportedly entered the mining pit around noon on Saturday, September 26, to engage in mining activities but later became weak, allegedly due to excessive heat and inadequate ventilation underground.
They reportedly failed to return by the morning of Sunday, September 27, prompting a friend to enter the pit to search for them.
The friend is said to have found the two in a weak and distressed condition underground.
Residents and other community members subsequently mounted a rescue operation and transported the victims to the Juaboso Government Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
One of the deceased has been identified as Richard Oduro, popularly known as Churches, a resident of Juaboso Township.
The identity of the second deceased, who is reportedly not a resident of the community, remains unknown.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident and the official cause of the deaths have yet to be established.
Further details are expected as investigations into the incident continue.
