Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about how Wizkid and Wande Coal influenced his decision to pursue music while he was still in school.
Davido disclosed that he approached the two artistes for advice after becoming interested in making music professionally.
Speaking in the Afrobeats Documentary, he said he asked Wizkid and Wande Coal how they managed to leave school and concentrate fully on their music careers.
According to Davido, the two musicians told him that he would need to achieve significant success in music before his father would consider allowing him to abandon his studies.
“I asked Wizkid and Wande Coal how they left school to do music.
“They told me the only way was to blow up. I knew my dad wouldn’t allow me, but when ‘Dami Duro’ blew up, I couldn’t continue,” he said.
After Dami Duro became a hit, Davido found it difficult to continue with school as his music career gained momentum.
He later returned to school after reaching an agreement with his father, who allowed him to pursue music while completing his education and gave him access to a recording studio.
Davido graduated from Babcock University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music.
