Two persons have been re-arrested and interrogated over an alleged Senior High School (SHS) placement fraud scheme in which parents and students were reportedly charged between GH¢9,500 and GH¢22,000 to secure admission into preferred schools.
The suspects have been identified as 24-year-old University of Ghana graduate Vicentia Appiah Antwi and 18-year-old unemployed Suzzy Owusu.
They were arrested at about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, by a team from the Ministry of Education acting on the directives of the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu.
The arrests followed intelligence received by the Intelligence Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters regarding an alleged scheme targeting parents and students seeking placement in particular SHSs.
Investigators believe the suspects allegedly demanded varying amounts from victims depending on the school they wanted their children or wards placed in.
The suspects are alleged to have represented to parents and students that they had the connections and ability to facilitate placement into their preferred schools in exchange for payment.
During interrogation, the two suspects reportedly mentioned two other individuals they claimed were connected to the alleged scheme. They identified them as Nana Yaw Boateng, said to be a medical doctor at Kwadaso SDA Hospital in Kumasi, and Alex Asumani, also known as “Lexus.”
Following their arrest, the suspects were cautioned and detained for 24 hours to assist with investigations. They have since been granted bail to a credible surety and released as investigators continue efforts to trace and arrest other persons suspected to be involved.
As part of the ongoing inquiry, investigators have obtained statements from two alleged victims and their parents.
The two individuals named during interrogation have reportedly been asked to report to the investigative unit to assist with the investigation.
Authorities are expected to take further action as the probe progresses.
Investigators have meanwhile urged anyone with relevant information about the alleged placement fraud scheme to cooperate with the appropriate authorities.
