Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has called for urgent government action over what he describes as a growing narcotics trafficking crisis threatening Ghana’s international reputation.
In a social media post, the Assin South MP warned that Ghana could become a “cocaine coast” if authorities fail to take decisive steps to address the increasing number of major narcotics consignments reportedly linked to the country.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour questioned whether the government was “directly facilitating” the transit of narcotics or benefiting from the trade, citing what he described as a lack of decisive action against those allegedly responsible.
He also questioned why no government official had been dismissed over the alleged failures.
The legislator is therefore calling for an immediate, full-scale investigation into the concerns, involving the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Transport, Narcotics Control Commission, Ghana Immigration Service and the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI).
Rev. Ntim Fordjour stressed the need for authorities to act swiftly to protect Ghana’s international image and prevent the country from becoming increasingly associated with narcotics trafficking.
