The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
A total of 512,862 candidates from 1,022 schools participated in this year’s examination. The candidates comprised 225,270 males and 287,592 females, representing an 11.07 per cent increase compared to the 461,736 candidates who registered for the 2025 examination .
WAEC disclosed that 5,049 candidates, equivalent to 0.98 per cent of the total number of registered candidates, were absent from the examination.
The Council said the provisional results have been uploaded online, with school heads expected to receive the necessary login credentials to access the performance of their candidates. Individual candidates can also check their results through the official WAEC website.
Following the release, WAEC cautioned candidates and the public against fraudsters who claim they can manipulate, upgrade or change examination results in exchange for money.
The Council stressed that its results are securely protected and can be verified through its official results verification system. Candidates may also use the WAEC QR code as an additional means of confirming the authenticity of their results.
WAEC therefore urged candidates, parents and other stakeholders to disregard claims by individuals promising to alter examination results and to treat such offers with scepticism.
