The 7.2-kilometre Valco Roundabout-Kpone Junction road in Tema has deteriorated significantly, leaving residents, motorists and petroleum tanker drivers increasingly frustrated over delays in rehabilitating the key industrial route.

As of August 30, 2026, there were limited visible signs of construction on the road, despite repeated assurances from authorities that rehabilitation works would be undertaken.

The worsening condition of the route has become a major concern for motorists, particularly tanker and truck drivers who rely heavily on the road to transport petroleum products and other goods from the Tema industrial enclave to various parts of the country.

Drivers say a trip that would normally take less than 30 minutes can now stretch beyond three hours, especially when traffic congestion intensifies.

The poor state of the road has also contributed to frequent vehicle breakdowns, higher vehicle maintenance costs and increasing concerns about the safety of motorists and other road users.

The growing frustration among petroleum tanker drivers has also raised the possibility of a fresh strike if urgent steps are not taken to address the condition of the road.
