A military and police team has arrested 11 people and seized a pump-action gun, ammunition and other security-related items during an intelligence-led operation at Kromase near Nkwanta in the Oti Region.
The operation, led by Combat Team Commander Major Muktar Saani was conducted in the hours of Wednesday, August 26 2026 as part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to find and stop activities that could harm peace and stability in the area.
The Ghana Armed Forces revealed the operation in a Facebook post on Thursday, August 27 saying the security personnel did a and-search exercise at places where some of the suspects were living.
The operation was part of security efforts aimed at stopping activities that could harm public safety in and around Nkwanta.
The suspects identified by the security authorities include Benjamin Nyame, 41; Kofi Sakyi, 60; James Yentumi, 70; Donkor Benyingi, 49; Kofi Ofori, 56; Kwasi Christian, 47; Kelvin Agyei, 31; Kwame Asare Yentumi, 35; Mensah Nyimfor, 55; Geoffrey Okuigye, 53; Nelson Kolali, 17; and another person named Ntrubo.
During the search security personnel found items in rooms where some of the suspects were staying.
The items taken included a pump-action gun 21 live AAA cartridges, two live BB cartridges, a brown body armour, a locally made ammunition belt and a police uniform.
The finding of the gun and ammunition has made the operation more important especially as authorities keep trying to keep security in the Nkwanta area.
The presence of a police uniform and body armour among the items taken is also expected to be part of the investigations as security personnel work to find out how the items were obtained.
The Ghana Armed Forces said the suspects and the items taken were moved to the base after the operation.
The suspects are still in custody. Are helping investigators as authorities try to find out if they are connected to any criminal activity or other security-related incidents in the area.
At this time the arrest of the people does not mean they have done something. More investigations are needed to find out about the items taken. If any of the suspects will be charged.
The operation happens at a time when Ghanas security agencies are working to increase their presence in areas that’re at risk of security issues.
Nkwanta and nearby communities have had security problems before because of tensions and incidents that needed help from the governments security forces. Keeping peace in the area is still a goal for the authorities.
