One person has died and five others sustained injuries following a road crash involving a Kia Rhino and a MAN Diesel truck at Asubuo on the Accra–Kumasi Highway. The Ghana National Fire Service said firefighters rescued an occupant trapped in one of the vehicles before the injured victims were transported for medical treatment.
A road crash on the Accra–Kumasi Highway at Asubuo has left one person dead and five others injured, renewing concerns about safety on one of Ghana’s busiest transportation routes.
The accident occurred on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, and involved a Kia Rhino and a MAN Diesel truck, according to the Ghana National Fire Service.
The incident was reported to emergency responders after information was received that an individual had become trapped inside the Kia Rhino following the collision.
Firefighters from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station were dispatched to the scene to assist with the rescue operation.
Upon arrival, the firefighters used specialized extrication equipment to free the trapped occupant from the vehicle. The casualty was subsequently rescued and transported to the Suhum Government Hospital for medical attention.
The Ghana National Fire Service confirmed that five people sustained injuries in the accident and were receiving medical care.
A male pedestrian was also confirmed dead at the scene after reportedly being knocked down during the incident.
Both vehicles involved in the crash sustained extensive damage. The exact circumstances that led to the collision remain under investigation.
The accident highlights the risks associated with travelling on the Accra–Kumasi Highway, a major road connecting some of Ghana’s most important commercial and population centres.
