The Ghana Police Service has arrested six suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate during a coordinated intelligence-led operation in Kumasi. Officers recovered firearms, ammunition, stolen electronic devices, and several vehicles believed to have been used in criminal activities across the Ashanti Region.
The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of six individuals suspected to be members of a criminal network linked to a series of armed robbery incidents in Kumasi and surrounding communities.The arrests followed weeks of intelligence gathering, surveillance operations, and collaboration between regional police units. Authorities say the operation targeted multiple locations simultaneously to prevent suspects from escaping or destroying evidence.
According to police officials, officers recovered two locally manufactured firearms, several rounds of ammunition, mobile phones, laptops, cash believed to be proceeds from robbery activities, and three vehicles suspected to have been used during criminal operations.The Regional Police Commander stated that investigators had been monitoring the activities of the suspects following reports of increasing attacks on traders, motorists, and residents travelling during late evening hours.
Police believe the syndicate carefully selected victims after monitoring their daily routines before carrying out coordinated attacks. Investigators are examining whether the suspects are connected to similar crimes reported in neighbouring districts.
Crime scene investigators have commenced forensic examinations of seized weapons, electronic devices, and vehicles to establish links with previous robbery cases. Digital evidence recovered from mobile phones is also being analyzed to identify additional suspects and possible accomplices.
The suspects remain in police custody assisting investigations and are expected to appear before court after preliminary investigations are completed. Authorities emphasized that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
Residents of affected communities welcomed the arrests, expressing hope that the operation would reduce criminal activities and restore public confidence in local security.
Business owners noted that repeated robbery attacks had forced some shops to close earlier than usual, negatively affecting commercial activities. Citizens have also been encouraged to avoid carrying large sums of money without adequate security arrangements.
