Ghanaian reggae and dancehall musician Sugar Ranking The Rabbi has revealed that his long absence from the entertainment industry was due to his 13-year service in the Ghana Armed Forces.
Speaking in an interview, the artiste said he paused his music career after enlisting in the military, where he eventually became a commissioned officer. He explained that his responsibilities and military regulations at the time prevented serving officers from performing publicly as musicians.
Sugar Ranking said choosing a military career over music was a decision he has never regretted, despite already gaining popularity alongside artistes such as Castro, Yogi Dogi and Sonny Badu.
Although he stayed away from the spotlight, he noted that he never gave up on music. Instead, he continued writing songs and sharpening his skills while waiting for the right time to return.
Now that he has completed his military service, the reggae star says he is fully committed to reviving his music career.
“I served for 13 years. I’m out now, and I went back for my microphone because that’s what I do best,” he said.
Beyond releasing new music, Sugar Ranking said he hopes to mentor upcoming artistes and produce songs that inspire and make a positive impact on society.
His disclosure ends years of speculation about his disappearance from the music scene and marks the start of a new chapter in his musical journey.
