The Minority Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament has called for consistency in justice administration, persuading the judiciary to use the same legal benchmark that led to the exculpation of legal luminary Tsatsu Tsikata to the case involving the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party Bernard Antwi Bosiako widely known as Chairman Wontumi.
Bernard Antwi Bosiako was found guilty on illegal mining charges on July 20, 2026. The Deputy Minority Leader addressed journalists in Parliament today Tuesday July 21. In her addressed, she emphasized that the Minority was not requesting for any special treatment for Chaiman Wontumi but was demanding fairness and uniformity in the implementation of the law.
“We call on all Ghanaians of every party to insist that the standard which cleared Tsatsu Tsikata in 2016 be applied in Wontumi’s conviction today. This is not an attack on the judiciary as an institution; it is a call for consistency and a system that inspires confidence across the political divide and not merely within it,” she said.
The Deputy Minority Leader emphasized that public confidence in Ghana’s justice system depends on the consistent application of legal principles, irrespective of political affiliation or social standing. She added that history would judge the moment not by the length of the sentence but by whether Ghana chose to defend the constitution for all citizens or only for those aligned with the government of the day.
