The Ministry of Health has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media alleging that Ghana has recorded 2,300 Ebola cases and 930 deaths.
In a statement, the Ministry said the publication, allegedly attributed to South African broadcaster SABC, is inaccurate and does not reflect the country’s current public health situation.
“The Ministry wishes to state unequivocally that Ghana has not recorded any case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). The figures being circulated are false, misleading, and should be disregarded,” the statement said.
The Ministry urged the public to remain calm and rely only on verified information from official sources, cautioning that the spread of unverified reports could cause unnecessary fear and panic.
It also explained that Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh’s recent inspection of Ghana’s entry points, laboratories and treatment centres was part of routine preparedness measures to strengthen the country’s ability to prevent and respond to any potential public health emergency.
According to the Ministry, these activities are precautionary and “should not be interpreted as evidence of an Ebola outbreak in Ghana,” but are part of ongoing efforts to maintain the country’s emergency response readiness.
The Ministry further appealed to the public to refrain from sharing unverified information and instead rely on updates from the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service on all public health matters.
