Mahama inaugurates Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy

President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy, a high-level body tasked with providing strategic guidance on macroeconomic policy, fiscal stability and Ghana’s long-term economic transformation.

The Group, chaired by the President, brings together leading figures from academia, finance, public service and the private sector to strengthen evidence-based decision-making and support the country’s economic recovery efforts.

Members of the Advisory Group include Vice President H.E. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang; private sector leader Ishmael Yamson; economist and private sector leader Kwame Pianim; former Deputy Minister for Finance and former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana Nana Oye Mansa Yeboaa; economist and former Minister for Finance Dr Kwabena Duffuor; industrialist Sir Samuel Esson Jonah; former World Bank infrastructure specialist and agribusiness investor Ato Brown; former Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr Henry A. Kofi Wampah; economist and private sector leader Togbe Afede XIV; Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Stock Exchange Abena Amoah; and academics Professor Priscilla Twumasi Baffour and Professor Patience Aseweh Abor.

The composition of the Advisory Group reflects a blend of policy experience, financial sector leadership, academic research and industrial expertise. The presidency says the initiative is designed to deepen coordination between government and key stakeholders while generating practical solutions to address inflation, debt sustainability, investment mobilisation and structural reforms.

By assembling a cross-section of economic thinkers and practitioners, the President aims to reinforce confidence in Ghana’s economic management framework and chart a clear path toward stability, growth and inclusive prosperity.
