The Majority Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament has called for the immediate cancellation of the results of the party’s parliamentary primaries held in the Ayawaso East Constituency, citing allegations of vote-buying.
In a statement dated February 8, 2026, and signed by Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga, the caucus said it had taken note of widely circulated reports alleging unethical conduct during the just-ended primary in the Greater Accra constituency.

The caucus strongly condemned the alleged developments, describing them as inconsistent with the NDC’s stated agenda to reset Ghana’s politics and restore integrity to the democratic process. According to the statement, the leadership of the Majority Caucus held extensive deliberations on the matter before reaching its decision.
Following these discussions, the caucus resolved to formally communicate two key demands to the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC. First, it called for the immediate annulment of the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary. Second, it urged that any candidate found to have engaged in vote-buying or related unethical practices should be disqualified from participating in any subsequent primary conducted after the annulment.
The statement emphasised that the call for cancellation and possible disqualification is aimed at safeguarding the credibility of the party’s internal democratic processes and reinforcing public confidence in its commitment to ethical politics.
The development comes amid heightened scrutiny of the Ayawaso East primary, which has already prompted the NDC to establish a three-member committee to investigate the allegations. Mahama Ayariga, who signed the caucus statement, has since withdrawn from the probe committee, a move widely seen as an effort to avoid any perception of conflict and to preserve the independence of the investigation.

The Majority Caucus reiterated its commitment to restoring integrity in Ghana’s political landscape, stressing that the party must hold itself to high ethical standards as it prepares for future electoral contests.
