Manchester City’s Ghanaian winger Antoine Semenyo has etched his name into the club’s history books by matching a long-standing goal-scoring record previously held by former City striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

The milestone was reached on February 1, 2026, during Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur, when Semenyo found the back of the net to record his fourth goal in his first five appearances for the club in all competitions a feat that Adebayor achieved in 2009.

Semenyo’s goal came in the 44th minute at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He calmly finished off a precise assist from Bernardo Silva to give City a 2-0 advantage before half-time. Although Manchester City were eventually held to a 2–2 draw after Spurs mounted a second-half comeback, Semenyo’s contribution once again highlighted his growing influence in the squad.

The 26-year-old has now registered five direct goal contributions in five matches for Manchester City, scoring four goals and providing one assist. This impressive return underlines the speed with which he has adapted to life at the Etihad Stadium and Pep Guardiola’s tactical demands.

Semenyo joined Manchester City amid high expectations following his transfer from AFC Bournemouth, where he had already established himself as a dangerous attacking presence in the Premier League. His performances prior to the move drew interest from several top clubs, with City ultimately securing his signature.

Since his arrival, Semenyo has wasted little time making an impact. In addition to his league goals, he enjoyed a memorable FA Cup debut, scoring and assisting in City’s emphatic 10–1 victory over Exeter City earlier in January. That performance showcased his versatility, work rate, and ability to thrive in high-pressure attacking systems.

Equalling Adebayor’s record places Semenyo in elite company. Adebayor’s explosive start in 2009 remains one of the most talked-about early goal-scoring runs in Manchester City’s modern era, and very few players have managed to replicate such an immediate influence.

For Semenyo, matching that benchmark represents a significant personal milestone and a strong statement of intent. His blend of pace, strength, movement, and clinical finishing has quickly earned him recognition as one of City’s most exciting attacking options.

As the season continues, attention will now turn to whether Semenyo can build on this momentum and possibly surpass the record altogether. With confidence growing and opportunities increasing, the Ghanaian forward appears well-positioned to continue making history in Manchester City colours.
