Seventeen officers of the Ghana Police Service have been promoted by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, in recognition of what police authorities described as exceptional professionalism and dedication to duty during high-impact security operations.

The promotions were effected on January 27, 2026, following the officers’ involvement in separate operations that led to the interception of large quantities of suspected narcotic substances and the recovery of illegal firearms and ammunition in different parts of the country.

According to the Police Service, some of the promoted officers played critical roles in an intelligence-led operation in Ho in the Volta Region, where ten wrapped slabs of substances suspected to be cocaine were intercepted alongside several sacks of suspected narcotic drugs. The haul has an estimated street value of GHC 1,032,650.00, marking one of the notable drug seizures recorded in the area in recent times.

In a separate operation at Jacobu, officers on routine patrol successfully recovered an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action shotgun, and eight live AAA ammunition. Police say the operation helped avert potential violent crime and underscored the importance of proactive patrols and vigilance at the community level.

The promotions were announced during a ceremony attended by the Inspector-General of Police and members of the Police Management Board. Mr Yohuno congratulated the officers on their elevation, praising their discipline, courage, and commitment to the core values of the Ghana Police Service. He noted that their actions reflected the standards expected of officers entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding lives and property.

The IGP stressed that the promotions were not merely ceremonial but a recognition of merit earned through integrity and excellence in service. He urged the officers to see their new ranks as a call to greater responsibility and leadership, both within the Service and in their interactions with the public.

Mr Yohuno also used the occasion to reassure personnel across the Service that hard work, professionalism, and ethical conduct remain the primary criteria for recognition and advancement within the Ghana Police Service, encouraging officers at all levels to remain committed to duty as the Service intensifies efforts to combat crime and drug trafficking nationwide.
