Opoku Ware School (OWASS) has sealed their place in the grand finale of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after a commanding performance in the semifinals, where they triumphed over St. Peter’s SHS and Achimota School in an electrifying contest.

In what fans dubbed the “Battle of the Giants,” the Santasi-based powerhouse showcased composure, confidence, and razor-sharp intellect, proving their readiness to reclaim the NSMQ crown after over two decades. The two-time champions, having won the title in 1997 and 2002, put on a thrilling display that left little doubt about their championship intentions.

From the first round, OWASS made a strong statement, taking an early lead with 23 points, while Achimota School managed 14 points and St. Peter’s trailed with just 4 points. Their dominance continued into the second round, with OWASS extending their tally to 24 points, maintaining complete control as Achimota stagnated at 14 and St. Peter’s dropped to 3.

The much-anticipated Problem of the Day proved challenging for all contestants, but OWASS again showed remarkable consistency, scoring 5 out of 10, ahead of Achimota and St. Peter’s, who each secured 3 points.

The Santasi boys sealed their dominance in the final round, closing with 48 points, while Achimota and St. Peter’s ended with 27 and 10 points respectively.

The auditorium erupted into wild celebration as the final bell rang, confirming OWASS’s advancement to the 2025 NSMQ grand finale. The victory not only reignites their championship aspirations but also cements their reputation as one of Ghana’s most formidable academic institutions.

The grand finale is set to be a thrilling academic showdown featuring Opoku Ware School, defending champions Mfantsipim School, and St. Augustine’s College. Each school brings rich tradition, fierce intellect, and national pride to the table, setting the stage for what promises to be one of the most competitive finals in recent NSMQ history.
