Mawuli School 2000 Year Group Renovates Historic White Block to Mark 25th Anniversary

Members of the 2000 Year Group of Mawuli School in the Volta Region have undertaken a major renovation of the school’s historic White Block building as part of their 25th-anniversary celebrations since completing secondary education. The project, valued at GH₵300,000, reflects the group’s commitment to preserving the school’s legacy while contributing to improved educational infrastructure for future generations.

The renovation, which was executed in three phases, involved structural repair, roofing and painting, replacement of classroom furniture, and modernization of interior facilities. These upgrades were designed to enhance the learning environment and align the facility with modern educational standards while maintaining the original architectural essence of the structure.

According to a communiqué signed by the Group’s Media and Publicity Chairperson, Anthony Bells Kafui Kanyi, the White Block was carefully selected as the 2000 Year Group’s legacy project because of its deep historical and emotional significance. The building, one of the oldest and most symbolic structures on the Mawuli School campus, played a crucial role in the academic journey of the group’s members.

“For many members of the 2000 Year Group, the ‘White Block’ is where they began their academic journey, built lifelong friendships, and developed the discipline and values that shaped their professional and personal lives,” Mr. Kanyi stated. He explained that the project was inspired by three core objectives, the preservation of heritage, the improvement of learning conditions, and the inspiration of future generations.

He elaborated that the preservation of heritage was a key driving force behind the initiative, as the group sought to restore and maintain one of the most symbolic structures on campus. “Improvement of learning conditions was equally essential, as we aimed to create a renewed, conducive environment for teaching and learning. Lastly, inspiration for future generations meant setting an example of giving back and stewardship for younger Mawulians and future year groups,” he noted.

The White Block, described as a “symbol of heritage and transition,” is among Mawuli School’s earliest and most iconic buildings. Over the decades, it has served as one of the first classroom complexes, hosting classes, examinations, student meetings, and countless memories of academic and personal development. The structure holds deep sentimental value for generations of alumni who view it as the birthplace of their intellectual and moral formation.

“Beyond its physical presence, the Block symbolises the formative journey of Mawuli students. For decades, it has hosted classes, examinations, student group meetings, and even moments of quiet reflection for those who passed through its corridors. For many alumni, the building represents the starting point of their educational and personal growth, making it one of the most emotionally significant spaces on campus,” Mr. Kanyi added.

The official handing-over ceremony for the renovated White Block is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 26th October 2025, at 12:30 PM, at the forecourt of the building on the Mawuli School campus in Ho. The event is expected to attract prominent alumni, school authorities, students, and invited guests, marking a moment of pride for the 2000 Year Group and the entire Mawuli community.

As part of activities commemorating the 25th anniversary, the year group has also planned a social responsibility outreach. On Friday, 24th October 2025, members will visit the Ho Central Female Prisons to donate essential items and spend time with inmates and prison officials. The outreach aims to encourage and inspire the inmates while fostering a sense of compassion and community engagement among the group’s members.

The visit to the Ho Female Prisons is one of several key events lined up for the anniversary weekend. Others include participation in the Mawuli School’s 75th-anniversary float, a 90s-themed social night, and various interactive sessions celebrating the group’s collective achievements since their graduation.

The initiative has drawn praise from the school’s management and alumni association, who view it as a powerful example of responsible alumni stewardship. Headmaster of Mawuli School, Mr. Emmanuel Fiawu, commended the group for its dedication and generosity. He emphasized that such initiatives not only strengthen the school’s physical infrastructure but also deepen the sense of belonging and pride among old students.

“This gesture from the 2000 Year Group demonstrates what true alumni commitment means, not just words, but action that transforms lives. It’s an investment in the next generation and a reminder of how far teamwork and gratitude can go,” Mr. Fiawu remarked.

Several current students have also expressed excitement about learning in the renovated facility, noting that the improved environment boosts their motivation and sense of school pride. The project, they said, reflects the enduring bond between past and present generations of Mawulians.

The 2000 Year Group’s decision to focus on the White Block underscores a broader trend among alumni networks in Ghana who are stepping up to support their alma maters amid limited public funding for educational infrastructure. For Mawulians, this renovation is not just about painting walls and replacing desks; it’s about keeping the school’s spirit alive and inspiring continuity in a legacy of excellence, discipline, and service.

As the 25th-anniversary celebration approaches, the White Block stands not only as a renovated structure but also as a powerful symbol of gratitude and unity. The initiative reinforces the message that education is not a one-time privilege but a lifelong responsibility; a message the Mawuli School 2000 Year Group has embodied with purpose and pride.
