The Manhyia Palace has officially conveyed the solemn news of the passing of Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the revered Asantehemaa, to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo following long-standing Asante traditions.

On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, a high-powered delegation of eminent chiefs and elders from the Asante Kingdom, dispatched by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, paid a formal visit to Mr. Akufo-Addo. The visit, rich in cultural symbolism, was part of the elaborate customary process of informing significant national and political leaders about the passing of the Queen Mother.

The Asantehemaa is the second-highest authority in the Asante Kingdom after the Asantehene, serving as the custodian of royal lineage, cultural preservation, and women’s leadership in the traditional governance system. Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s passing marks the end of an era for the Oyoko Royal Family and the people of Asanteman, who have described her reign as one of dignity, wisdom, and grace.

In a Facebook post after the visit, former President Akufo-Addo expressed deep sorrow, paying tribute to the late Queen Mother as a “towering figure whose contributions to Asanteman and Ghana will forever be remembered.” He extended condolences to the Asantehene, the Oyoko Family, and the entire Ashanti Kingdom.
